Maple Recipes


Joyce’s Maple Shortbread


2 sticks butter

¼ cup maple syrup

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon maple flavoring

2 ½ cups flour


1)      Preheat oven to 300°F

2)      Cream together butter, maple syrup, brown sugar, and maple flavoring until light and fluffy.  Add flour and mix well. 

3)      Roll dough out on lightly floured board to ¼ inch thick. 

4)      Using small cookie cutters, cut out and place on an ungreased baking sheet.  Use a small fork to make light dents in the cookie tops.  Sprinkle tops lightly with maple sugar.

5)      Bake 15 minutes.  Makes about fifty small cookies.


Maple Syrup Muffins


2 cups flour                              1 egg

¼ cup sugar                              ½ cup milk

½ tsp Salt                                 ½ cup maple syrup      

3 tsp baking powder                 ¼ cup butter



1)      Preheat oven to 400°

2)      Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.  Cut in butter until well blended.

3)      Beat egg, milk, and maple syrup; stir into dry ingredients just until blended. 

      Do not over beat. 

4)      Fill paper-lined muffin tins 2/3 full. Bake 20 minutes at 400°.



Maple S’mores (makes about 4 dozen)


½ cup maple sugar                    1 ¼ cups flour

½ cup packed brown sugar       1 ¼ cups graham cracker crumbs

¾ cup butter                             ½ tsp baking soda

2 Tbsp milk                              ¼ tsp salt

1 egg                                        1/8 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp maple extract                   2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

                                                1 or 2 bags of marshmallows


1)      Preheat oven to 375°.

2)      Cream butter and sugars.  Beat in egg, milk, and maple extract. 

3)      Combine flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.  Add to creamed mixture.  Stir in chocolate chips.

4)      Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets.  Bake 8-10 minutes at 375°. Remove to wire racks to cool.  

5)      Place half of the cookies bottom side up and top each with a marshmallow. Microwave on high for 16-20 seconds.  Top each with another cookie. 



Maple Bars


½ cup maple sugar                    1 cup coconut

½ cup shortening                      1 cup oatmeal

½ cup maple syrup                   ½ tsp baking powder

1 egg                                        1 tsp maple extract

2/3 cup flour


1)      Preheat oven to 350°.

2)      Mix all ingredients thoroughly.

3)      Spread into greased 8”x 8” square pan. Bake 30 minutes at 350°.

            Cut into squares.



Maple Baked Doughnut Cookies (makes 24-30)


1 cup maple sugar                     4 cups flour

3 Tbsp melted shortening          4 tsp baking powder

2 eggs                                      1 tsp salt

1 tsp maple extract                   1 tsp nutmeg

1 cup milk


1)      Preheat oven to 375°.

2)      Cream sugar and shortening.  Add eggs and mix until creamy.  Add maple extract.

3)      Mix together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.  Add alternatively with milk to creamed mixture.  Stir until smooth.

4)      Roll on floured board to ½ inch thick.  Cut out with doughnut cutter.

5)      Sprinkle with maple sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet until brown – about 15 minutes at 375°.



Maple Macaroons (makes about 2 dozen)


1 cup finely shredded dried coconut                  ½ tsp maple extract

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed                     ½ cups flour

½ cup softened shortening                                 2 tsp baking powder

½ cup maple syrup                                           ½ tsp salt

1 egg


1)      Preheat oven to 375°

2)      Cream together brown sugar and shortening. 

3)      Beat maple syrup, maple extract, egg, salt, and baking powder together.  Add to first mixture, beating well.  Stir in coconut.

4)      Drop a tsp at a time on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 12 to 15 minutes.



Maple Hermits (makes about 3 dozen)


½ cup shortening                      1 tsp salt

1 cup sugar                               2 tsp cinnamon

6 Tbsp maple syrup                  1 tsp ground cloves

2 eggs                                      1 cup cran-raisins

1 ¾ cups flour                          1 cup rolled oats

1 tsp baking soda


1)      Preheat oven to 375°.

2)      Cream shortening, sugar, and maple syrup.  Beat in eggs.

3)      Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.  Add to creamed mixture.  Mix well.  Stir in cran-raisins and rolled oats.

4)      Drop by tsp onto greased cookie sheets.  Bake 10-12 minutes at 375°.



Maple Cupcakes


½ cup butter                             2 ½ cups flour

½ cup maple sugar                    2 tsp baking powder

1 cup maple syrup                    ½ tsp ginger

2 eggs                                      1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp maple extract                   ¼ tsp salt


1)      Preheat oven to 350°.

2)      Cream together butter, maple sugar, maple syrup, eggs, and maple extract.

3)      In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, ginger, baking soda, and salt. 

4)      Add creamed mixture to dry mixture.  Mix well.  Then add 1 cup hot water.

5)      Put batter into cupcake pan and bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes. 

6)      Frost with maple frosting.


Maple Frosting


4 cups confectioner’s sugar

½ cup softened butter

3 Tbsp milk

¼ cup maple syrup

½ tsp maple extract


Combine all ingredients and beat on high until frosting reaches spreading consistency. Frost cupcakes, then sprinkle maple sugar on top.
